ZAMAN PARK LIVE UPDATE - IMRAN KHAN ARREST
What is the reason for Imran Khan's arrest warrant
Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, has been issued a non-bailable arrest warrant by a district and sessions court in Lahore for failing to attend a hearing on charges of selling state gifts while in office. The case also involves allegations of concealing his assets from the authorities.
A police party from Islamabad flew by helicopter to Lahore to arrest him after the court issued the warrant. However, Khan did not appear before the court and was expected to lead an election rally in Lahore on Wednesday.
Khan's aides have claimed that he could not travel to Islamabad for health reasons and that he had been threatened with violence. However, the court has instructed the police to arrest him and present him before the court by March 29. The court will also hear arguments on Khan's petition seeking dismissal from the case in the next proceedings.
