what caused the ohio train derailment

An investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) found that an overheated wheel bearing on the train's 23rd car caused the Ohio train derailment. The derailment resulted in 38 rail cars derailing and a fire that damaged an additional 12 cars. A mechanical issue with an axle of one of the 150 cars is believed to be the cause of the derailment of at least 50 of the cars.

Local residents were evacuated due to explosions from some of the derailed train cars.
